CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Men break into, steal from southeast Austin home just days before Christmas

A group of men dressed in black were caught on camera breaking into a house in southeast Austin, just days before Christmas.

It's one of several burglaries Austin police are now investigating.

A woman who lives in the neighborhood says she was home when her security camera alarm went off. The camera caught several young men dressed in black running alongside her neighbor's home. Looking at the video in real-time, she called the police.

The homeowners say they were not home at the time.

The thieves attempted to break in through the front door with no luck, then kicked in the back door and stole prized possessions and gifts from under their Christmas tree.

Neighbors quickly shared the images of the thieves on neighborhood group chats. Neighbors say they are considering creating a neighborhood watch.

APD's crime data shows there have been eight home burglaries in the McKinney Heights area alone this year. Two happened less than a block from one another ahead of the holidays.

The homeowner who was burglarized says she's in contact with Buda police to see if one of the suspects is linked to a suspect accused of breaking into cars in that area.
