City of Taylor honors pioneer TV host Carolyn Jackson

Sunday afternoon the quiet community of Taylor came together to honor one of their own: Carolyn Jackson.

The pioneer woman, Taylor High School grad, and host of “The Carolyn Jackson Show” was inducted into the Taylor Duck Hall of Fame a little while ago. Now, the school district put together a documentary about her life to celebrate.

“Since we are now starting this Duck Hall of Fame series, she was one of the first ones we wanted to produce a video on,” said Tim Crow, spokesperson, Taylor ISD.

“Carolyn is a 1944 graduate of Taylor High School. She was a cheerleader in high school. She went on to the University of Texas and got one of the first broadcasting degrees they offered,” said Crow.

The documentary highlights Carolyn's road to success in broadcasting in a time period where men dominated the field. She wants to remind young Taylor students that they can do anything they set their mind to.

“We just want to show people how people from Taylor have made an impact in the world. Also we want to show young people, how they can be from a small town and maybe not have much financial means, but make the most of life,” said Jackson.

While Jackson was a Central Texas star, she maintained her small town attitude.

“I would watch her on TV, then I would see her in town in the grocery store buying groceries, and it was just such a neat experience,” said Crow.
