About 100 million people are expected to watch the Superbowl this Sunday between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Many fans are tuning in for the game, but many others also watch for those commercials.

About 100 million people are expected to watch the Superbowl this Sunday between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Many fans are tuning in for the game, but many others also watch for those commercials.

Advertisers will take advantage of how many people will be watching the game.

Companies drop anywhere between $5-$10 million on their commercials hoping to impress those watching with their products.

“The super bowl is the only time in the calendar where you've got more than 100 million Americans tuning in to the same event,” said Nate Jaffee, Head of Strategy at Praytell.

It costs advertisers millions of dollars for that 30-second spot during the biggest game of the year.

“Super Bowl ads have been around as long as the Superbowl, but early on, I think they cost about $40,000 for a spot. Today the cost is around $5.5 million,” said Jaffee.

With that large price tag, advertisers hope to create an experience for the viewers with their product. “Brands kind of go all out and put their best foot forward. Everything from working with a-list celebrities that we're all familiar with too, you know, engaging directors that that are well known in their own right, to really kind of creating a moment before and after the actual event itself,” said Jaffee.

The goal is to create a commercial that people will remember past the 30-second mark.

“A Super Bowl is the opportunity to actually insert yourself into culture, into pop culture, and to be a part of the conversation, not just at the watercooler the next day, but for months or years to come,” said Ben Gaddis, President, and CEO of T3.
