The City of Dallas moved the remaining Hurricane Harvey evacuees to a smaller shelter on Wednesday.
About 220 mega shelter evacuees were taken from the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center to the Tommie Allen Center in Oak Cliff.
Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings thanked citizens and nonprofits for helping make the shelter a safe and functioning place for Texans in need.
"I believe, that as I look back on this time, that we are so much better this time than we were with Katrina," Rawlings said. "I think the whole country was at the national level, at the regional level."
The mayor also said that about 100 of the evacuees have decided to permanently relocate to Dallas.
At its peak, the convention center was home to over 3,500 evacuees.
