AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - An elderly man has died following a crash on SH 45 in early April.
Wing Cheung Chou, 69, was traveling eastbound in the 14100 block of N. SH 45 with a female passenger in a 2010 blue Honda when he reportedly lost control and slid into a concrete barrier before rear-ending a parked Austin Fire Department apparatus truck on April 6.
According to Austin police, the AFD vehicle’s emergency lights were activated as it was partially blocking a lane of traffic to help protect a wrecker driver loading up a vehicle that had been involved in a separate crash.
ATCEMS, APD and AFD units responded to the scene. AFD firefighters extracted Chou and his passenger and ATCEMS medics declared them to be trauma alerts.
Chou was reported unconscious with critical life-threatening injuries and his passenger had serious but not life-threatening injuries. Both were transported to St. David's Round Rock Medical Center where Chou later died from his injuries. Both were reported by APD to be wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
