Del Valle ISD to be distributing Chromebooks to students needing technology access

Del Valle ISD will be distributing Chromebooks Tuesday to students needed technology access.

Chromebooks will be distributed to elementary and middle school students and students at the Opportunity Center on March 24. High school students have already been assigned Chromebooks.

There will be three time frames for Chromebook distribution at each campus

  • 8-10 a.m.
  • 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • 2-4 p.m.

Parents can drive to the front of their child's school where they will be greeted by school personnel, who will gather the required information to check out a Chromebook. DAEP students will go to their home campus to get one.

Del Valle ISD says the devices have been set aside for students who do not have one at home, so to ensure the devices are provided to students who need them, parents will be asked to confirm they are checking out a device because one is not available at home.

Online learning will begin Monday, March 30 and detailed instructions on accessing lessons will be provided on Friday, March 27, says Del Valle ISD. Students are instructed to work on their paper packets for the rest of this week.

Students in Pre-K through second grade will not be required to use Chromebooks. Instruction for primary students will be delivered mostly through paper materials that will be delivered on the meal bus routes.

Parents with questions can contact their child's school or visit Del Valle ISD's website for more information.

The public health disaster orders schools to be closed statewide until at least April 3. The disaster also orders a ban on dine-in eating and gathering in groups of more than 10 as the state ramps up efforts to battle the coronavirus. Abbott's order also will shut down gyms and bars. It also bans visits to nursing and retirement homes unless there is a critical need.
