Downtown Buda fire puts restaurant at "total loss"

According to a representative with the City of Buda, at approximately 11:27 p.m. firefighters were dispatched to the area of 100 main street for reports of heavy smoke and fire coming from the roofs of commercial buildings in downtown Buda.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the fire coming from the roof of Helen's Casa Alde Mexican Food restaurant at 108 Main Street. Buda firefighters began attacking the fire and requested help from Kyle Fire Department.

The fire was contained and determined to be under control at 12:44 a.m. Sunday morning.

Adjacent businesses of Farmers Insurance, Mikes Barber Shop, and Brooklyn’s restaurant were checked for fire damage but no fire extension was found.

Buda Fire remained on scene for extensive overhaul operations as the fire burnt through the pier and beam floor. Portions of the wood floor had to be removed to extinguish the fire that had spread beneath the wooden floor joist.

Buda Fire operations concluded at 4:37 a.m.

"Helens Casa Alde is to be considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation," said the official.
