East Austin celebrates diversity with new art installations

The next time you're near East Cesar Chavez, you may notice some new art installations.

The new pieces come from a collaboration between "Souly Austin Placemaking" and East Cesar Chavez Merchants Association. Celebrating the artistic and diverse nature of East Ceaser Chavez District is what got "Hearts of East Austin" started.

Eleven different hearts were designed by local artists with the message to love and care for your community, and the artists hope that the installations will inspire others in their own communities.

"I think everybody should take a walk down Cesar Chavez and see all the different types of hearts that we all created and get inspired. There [are] some very powerful messages here about love and healing and everything that surrounds our hearts and what makes art part of our hearts," said Selena Souders, an artist that designed one of the hearts.

According to the artists, the installations will stay up for a year.
