Family of Bastrop County homicide victim begging for answers

A small memorial is still visible outside Country Grocery in Del Valle where 23-year-old Ambrosio Gonzalez lost his life Memorial Day weekend.

The family of a man shot and killed at a convenience store in Bastrop County is speaking about his death for the first time.

The shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. on May 24th, yet there have still been no arrests in the case. A small memorial is still visible outside Country Grocery in Del Valle where 23-year-old Ambrosio Gonzalez lost his life Memorial Day weekend.

For safety reasons, his sister, StarAngel, asked FOX 7 to hide her appearance while she spoke about the memories she holds onto of her little brother.

“He was really funny, always joking about everything. He was very talented. He can draw really, really well. He loves to beatbox and rap and do all that,” StarAngel said.

Ambrosio's death is being investigated as a homicide by the Bastrop County Sheriff's Office, but after three week and no arrests, the Gonzalez family is growing desperate for information. “Just to help us bring some justice to our family for my brother because he didn't deserve anything that happened to him,” said StarAngel.

It was the night before Ambrosio planned to propose to his girlfriend when his sister says he left home with a friend in his nephew’s car. “The last thing he had texted his girlfriend was that he was with Michael and he would be back soon,” StarAngel said.

One hour later, just down the road, a store clerk at Country Grocery said he heard something, walked outside, saw blood and called 9-1-1. The Bastrop County Sheriff's Office responded around 9:30 p.m. and recovered surveillance video from the scene.

The sheriff's office posted a wanted flyer online about one week later. It said Michael Health is wanted for tampering with evidence and is a person of interest in a homicide. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Meanwhile, the Gonzalez family still doesn't know what or who is to blame for Ambrosio's death. “I just hope that whoever did it gets what they deserve,” said StarAngel.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call their local law enforcement agency, the Bastrop County Sheriff's Office or Crimestoppers.
