An Austin family is hoping a witness will come forward after their loved one was killed by a hit-and-run driver. Twenty-nine-year-old Jonathan Deleon’s family said he was out to celebrate at Buckets Bar on Cesar Chavez late Tuesday.

When the night was ending, right around 2:00 in the morning, he went back to his car, and that's when what police described as an SUV, possibly a white van, hit Deleon while he was on the driver side of the car.

That vehicle left the scene. Deleon was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center where he later died.  Deleon's family is hoping someone can come forward so they can get the closure they say they desperately need. "He was getting ready to go start a new adventure in Alaska when this happened,” said John Villela, his uncle.

"At 29-years-old he's taken from us and we don’t know. We don't know how much his kids will remember him, hopefully we can get them to remember him forever. What kind of person doesn't want to stop and help even if they didn't realize it?” said Armanda Martinez, Jonathan’s aunt.

He leaves behind three small children.

If you have any information you're asked to call the Austin Police Department.
