Fayette County Sheriff's Office warning of phone scammer claiming to be with clerk's office

FAYETTE COUNTY, Texas - The Fayette County Sheriff's Office is warning citizens of a reported phone scammer claiming to be with the county clerk's office.

A release from FCSO says a person is calling and saying they are with the Fayette County Clerk's office and that the victim needs to send in $500 or they will go to jail.

FCSO says the phone number that appears is 979-968-8531, which is a fax number for the clerk's office.

FCSO is reminding people that if they receive scam calls to not send any money, but instead report it to law enforcement.
