Five Mile Dam Park in Hays County closed until further notice

Five Mile Dam Park is currently closed to the public as of Thursday, June 25, says the Hays County Parks Department.

Countywide Operations Director Tammy Crumley said the move was necessary to prevent overcrowding and help slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

“With the City of San Marcos closing its river parks, we cannot sustain the influx of patrons at Five Mile Dam,” she said. “Our main goal in closing this park is to avoid large crowds gathering while Hays County is experiencing a surge in coronavirus cases.”

Hays County experiencing increase in COVID-19 cases, testing sites offering free tests to community

As the county sees an increase in the number of cases, the Texas Department of Emergency Management and the National Guard has been out since Sunday administering free tests to the community.

Crumley said the park and access to the Blanco River at that location will be closed until further notice. No other Hays County parks or natural areas are closed at this time.
