Five new cases confirmed at two TJJD facilities in the past 24 hours

Four more staff members have tested positive for COVID-19 at two TJJD campuses in the past 24 hours.

Two youth development coaches at the Giddings State School and a teacher and a youth development coach at the Evins Regional Juvenile Center have all tested positive for COVID-19.

TJJD is also reporting its first case of a youth testing positive for COVID-19. The youth who tested positive on Monday at the Giddings State School is still on campus for treatment.

TJJD says it has administered a total of 176 tests to youth.

Seven cases so far have been confirmed at the Giddings State School and five at the Evins Regional Juvenile Center. According to TJJD, thirteen staff members have tested positive for COVID-19:

  • 5 at Evins Regional Juvenile Center
  • 1 at Gainesville State School
  • 7 at Giddings State School

The McLennan County State Juvenile Correctional Facility and Ron Jackson State Juvenile Correctional Complex have not seen any positive cases.

All the positive staff cases, except for two, were youth development coaches. The first case reported was an IT employee at Giddings State School in early April.
