AUSTIN, Texas - Many veterans' families are dealing with a disease that for whatever reason affects veterans at about twice the rate it affects everyone else.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS is incurable, fatal and progressively destroys a person's ability to walk, speak, swallow and eat.
Now the Department of Defense has doubled its request for money to find out why veterans are being hit so hard by the disease.
