AUSTIN, Texas - In the FOX 7 Care Force, we are looking at how many veterans families are dealing with a disease that, for whatever reason, affects veterans at about twice the rate it affects the rest of us.

That disease is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which is incurable and progressively destroys a person's ability to walk, speak, swallow, and eat. It's a fatal disease.
Now, the defense department has doubled its request for money to find out why veterans are being so hard hit by ALS. Joining Mike Warren on FOX 7 Austin to talk about this more is Lara Garey who's husband tom an air force veteran is fighting the disease.
