GoFundMe campaign set up for Austin area black-owned businesses affected by COVID-19, recent protests

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support black-owned businesses in the Austin area affected by both COVID-19 and recent protests.

The campaign is spearheaded by Austin's Black Business Journal, a product of Made Media Group, a nonprofit that informs, empowers, and transforms African American communities through mass communication and technology, says GoFundMe.

The funds, according to the campaign, will support verified black-owned business owners in the Greater Austin area affected by COVID-19, protests, riots, and looting and help repair damage.

To receive support, the campaign says those seeking help must be a verified Greater Austin black business owner and if needed, support will be expanded to other impacted Texas cities.

The campaign says they will update the list of businesses receiving support as they receive more requests for help. Once funds are given out to the specified businesses, the remaining amount will go to other funds that support the community.
