Gov. Abbott on proposed legislation against cities who defund their police departments
The governor said in a press conference this week that any city in the state that defunds police departments will have property tax rates frozen at their current level.
AUSTIN, Texas - Defunding the police department is a hot topic here in Austin.
On Tuesday, Gov. Greg Abbott announced that he was proposing legislation for the next session in January that would essentially punish cities that defund police departments.
Abbott joins Rebecca Thomas to talk about his proposed legislation punishing any city in the state that defunds police departments by freezing property tax rates at their current level.
