Group finds Hutto #1 safest city in Texas

The National Council for Home Safety and Security (NCHSS) has compiled a top 50 list of the safest cities in Texas and Hutto tops the list.

Officials say that the City of Hutto had only 100 reported crimes in 2018 and that it was among several Central Texas cities to make the list based on statistics from the FBI Uniform Crime Report. Other cities on the list include Lakeway (14), Fredericksburg (16), Lockhart (22), Georgetown (24), Leander (27), Cedar Park (42) and Kyle (43).

“It is a team effort, the city leadership, citizens of Hutto and the police department. We are not the typical police department where we just respond, we are proactive, we engage our community,” said Chief Paul Hall.

Hutto ISD assistant superintendent Henry Gideon says the student population will grow from 8,000 to 12,000 within the next decade, and they plan on continuing their efforts to also keep kids safe in school.

“When you see something like that, that brags on a community, that's a source of pride but that's attributed to everybody that has a role in school safety but also the safety and well-being of our entire community,” said Gideon.
