Health alert signs are popping by up around Taylor’s Robinson Park.

Earlier this month crews found a mosquito which tested positive for the West Nile Virus. Spraying will be done in the area where it was found Wednesday and Thursday and certain facilities like their splash pad will have its hours reduced.

So far there are no reports of any people with the virus. “It’s frightening you know it happened right here,” said Clarence Caldwell. One of these health alert signs is right by Caldwell’s home.

The West Nile Virus in rare cases can be deadly.

It’s not just this finding which concerns Caldwell, he said it’s the mosquitoes in general. “It’s bad, we can’t even go outdoors,” said Caldwell.

Even those who frequent the near by park like Carla Alderete said it’s common to walk away with a few bites. “All the time, the mosquitoes are bad,” said Alderete.

One of the things the city is doing is reducing the hours at the splash pad at the Robinson Park in order to reduce exposure to mosquitoes in the area. The city is also sending crews out this week to spray.

This is something Margaret Caldwell said should have been done before the recent discovery. “They use to come through and we would know when they were spraying because we would see the smoke and all of that for the mosquitoes but now we never know when they will come through the neighborhood or if they are coming through the neighborhood to spray,” said Caldwell.

Taylor isn’t the only place where crews found a mosquito which tested positive for West Nile. Earlier this week crews also found one in Cedar Park. Health officials are urging people to get rid of standing water around your home and wear proper mosquito repellent.
