Bastrop man wanted for sexual abuse found in Panama, brought back and arrested in Austin

A Bastrop man wanted for continuous sexual abuse of a young child was found in Panama and brought back to Austin.

According to the U.S. Marshals Service, they found 60-year-old Henry Torres, of Bastrop. The Travis County Sheriff's Office issued a warrant for Torres on May 23, 2023, for continuous sexual abuse of a young child.

Torres was indicted by a grand jury on 11 counts that included: sexual abuse of child continuous, indecency with a child sexual contact, aggravated sexual assault of a child, and indecency with a child sexual contact.

Torres arrived in Austin and was transported and booked into the Travis County Jail.

On Nov. 12, U.S. Marshals received word that Torres was detained by officials in Panama. The next day, the Travis County District Attorney’s Office filed and obtained a provisional arrest warrant for Torres with the Department of Justice.

On Dec. 11, Panama officials handed Torres over to the U.S. Marshals for extradition back to the United States. He arrived in Austin and was transported and booked into the Travis County Jail.

Torres will await further judicial proceedings, with a bond set initially set at $100,000.
