House passes border security bill

State lawmakers also took a big step Wednesday to bring home Texas national guardsmen from the border.

The guard has been deployed for more than 200 days as part of a security surge.

Wednesday, state House members approved a comprehensive border bill that includes hiring more state troopers for South Texas.

A reserve force to help during peak enforcement times will also be created from retired troopers.

The legislation still must be approved by the state Senate.
