Huston-Tillotson basketball player honors stepdad by pursuing college dreams
Last month KeErick Carr's stepfather Germichael Perry-Moses was shot and killed at a Pflugerville gas station. Carr remembers the exact conversation he had with his stepfather the day before.
PFLUGERVILLE, Texas - KeErick Carr is an avid basketball player and a newly-enrolled Huston-Tillotson student. He just wishes his stepdad could have lived to see it.
“He would be here. He never missed a game, him and my dad,” said Carr.
Last month his stepfather Germichael Perry-Moses was shot and killed at a Pflugerville gas station. Carr remembers the exact conversation he had with his stepfather the day before.

“We just were having conversations about life and he kept saying you never want to throw your life away for anything and if you have a dream keep chasing it,” said Carr.
Not long after Perry-Moses died, Huston-Tillotson officials contacted Carr about playing ball.
“I told him do you want to come to HT, he said, man, I would love to come to HT. He has a lot of heart, and he plays hard, works hard and he's dedicated,” said Thomas C. Henderson, head men’s basketball coach.
Henderson knew Carr was the type of team player he wanted, especially with the commitment he showed shortly after Perry-Moses’ death.

“He walks into the gym and he is all suited a booted. We are thinking he is going to prom. He sits behind us behind the bench. After the game, I said ‘Why are you all dressed up you look better than me in my suit?’” He said ‘I just buried my father. But basketball was important. This is something where I can just be me and I can just let go. I just wanted to come and support the team,’” said Henderson.
Dominic Nicholson was arrested and charged with capital murder. A second person who was in a pickup truck on the scene is still at large. In the meantime, Carr continues to reflect on the good times

“He was 6'7", he was a big guy but he was all love. He didn't go out to harm anybody. Love your loved ones while you have them because you never know when it's their last day,” said Carr.
