HUTTO, Texas - Like any parent, Bruce Montgomery wants to make sure his kids make it to school safe. Last year, Montgomery and his young kids decided to make signs in an effort to get people to slow down while driving.
Rain or shine, you can find Montgomery at the corner of Haybarn Lane and Vienna Drive in Hutto wishing everyone passing by a good morning.
"I used to hold a sign that just said, slow down, please. You know, kids live here. And people respected that. And i smiled and waved but again, it was…it's much more fun to just watch them smile over reading the fun little signs that I put out," Montgomery said.
Montgomery says he started this idea last year when he noticed drivers zooming by on the street as he would drop his kids off at school.
"It's only 30 miles an hour right here. It's not a freeway, but some people treat it that way. So now they slow down," said Montgomery.

He says coming out in the mornings and putting up his signs has made a slight impact.
"My little boys go to these schools back here. And then I realized quickly that it wasn't trying to slow anybody down, didn't work, but just trying to make them smile. That worked a lot better. And when I started using a little sign and having something fun to say every day, people slowed down to read it," says Montgomery.
Montgomery says he hopes the little interaction strangers get with him in the morning cheers them up as they start their day.
"Some positivity as you're coming and going certainly never hurts. I mean, there's a lot to be positive about this season. So I think we should all be very thankful for what we've got and try and spread a little love," says Montgomery.
Montgomery hopes this inspires people in the community to take a moment and share some positivity with other people.
