AUSTIN, Texas - IDEA Public Schools says they will be offering free curbside meals to all children under the age of 19 in each of their regions.
All IDEA schools in Austin will have meals available for curbside pick-up from 7-10 a.m. Monday – Friday.

“At IDEA Public Schools we understand that many of our students rely on us for needs beyond academics,” said COO Irma Munoz. “We are very thankful that we have the opportunity at IDEA Public Schools to offer free meals at all of our campuses throughout Texas and Louisiana.”
All meals are provided via drive-thru only. Children are eligible for meal service at any school location.
Families wanting more information on school closure, meal service, childcare services, and the distance learning program can visit IDEA's website.
Last week, Gov. Greg Abbott issued a public health disaster, the first in Texas since 1901. The executive orders, which take effect at midnight Friday, March 20 and go through midnight on Friday, April 3, will bring the state in line with CDC guidelines to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The public health disaster orders schools to be closed statewide until at least April 3. The disaster also orders a ban on dine-in eating and gathering in groups of more than 10 as the state ramps up efforts to battle the coronavirus. Abbott's order also will shut down gyms and bars. It also bans visits to nursing and retirement homes unless there is a critical need.
