SAN MARCOS, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - Some lanes of I-35 are set to close due to the demolition of the Posey Road Bridge in San Marcos.
The demolition is set to begin at 9 p.m. tonight (5/14).
The project is being done in two parts. First crews are knocking down the bridge and then they're removing it.
Traffic will be redirected from the I-35 main lanes tomorrow and from the frontage roads on Thursday and Friday. During the closures, I-35 main lane traffic will be detoured to the frontage roads at the Posey Road exit ramp 199.
Drivers wishing to cross I-35 at Posey Road will be detoured to York Creek Road on Centerpoint Road.
TxDOT broke ground on the project a few months ago.
Once complete the project will permanently remove the bridge and raise the main lanes of I-35 over Posey Road.
In addition to the construction of a new overpass, TxDOT will add two new u-turn lanes in each direction along with replacing an entrance ramp with an exit one and convert the existing two-way frontage roads to one way.
Drivers can exepct detours and most likely delays during peak driving hours.
The project is funded by Hays County and TxDOT at a cost of nearly $32 million. It's expected to be finished by late 2020 or early 2021.
