Leander neighborhood welcomes soldier home after original welcome was canceled due to COVID-19

After being deployed in Afghanistan for half a year, Aaron Williamson’s neighborhood wanted to show their appreciation in a unique way, as the threat of COVID-19 has canceled usual welcome home ceremonies.

The threat of COVID-19 didn’t stop one Leander neighborhood from showing their appreciation for a soldier returning from deployment.

Following proper social distancing, they held a parade to welcome home Aaron Williamson. “It’s one of those things that just warms your heart,” said Williamson.

“I see all these neighbors their holding American flags, they are cheering, honking their horns. It was amazing,” said Williamson.

With everyone keeping a proper social distance, neighbors lined the streets and held a heartfelt parade for Williamson to thank home for his service, his family speechless.

“I didn’t expect it to be as big as it was. I was tearing up the whole drive into the neighborhood,” said Emilee Williamson, Aaron’s wife.

This welcome home was special in many ways for Williamson as there is a new member in his family.

“Before I was deployed my wife was about six months pregnant, we had just bought our house in Leander. I was able to FaceTime when she gave birth to our son Cooper which that was a big blessing,” said Williamson.

Following the parade, Williamson said he couldn’t feel more at home, especially with how close everyone in the neighborhood is.

“They mowed our lawn, took our trash out, they really looked out for the family while I was gone I’m just speechless,” said Williamson.
