DIME BOX, Texas - A Lee County deputy has been hospitalized after a shooting in Dime Box, located less than 20 miles north of Giddings.
According to the Giddings Times and News, a call was received at 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10 about a man holding a woman and two minors hostage. Two Lee County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the scene.
There was an exchange of gunfire and one of the deputies was shot in the neck. The injured deputy was last reported in stable condition after being flown to Austin.
The woman and the two minors were able to escape out a window. The woman told law enforcement that the suspect was lying in the hallway and that it was not clear if the suspect was dead.
DPS arrived and sent in a thermal drone and found the suspect not moving. Law enforcement went in and the suspect was declared dead at the scene.
