Republican Liz Cheney endorses Kamala Harris for president

Former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney said she will support Kamala Harris for president.
Cheney, the daughter of former vice president Dick Cheney, made her announcement to endorse the vice president during an event at Duke University on Wednesday night.

Citing a video posted on X, formerly Twitter, the AP noted that Cheney discussed the "danger" she believed Donald Trump still poses to the nation.
"I don’t believe that we have the luxury of writing in candidates’ names, particularly in swing states," she said. "As a conservative, as someone who believes in and cares about the Constitution, I have thought deeply about this. Because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, but I will be voting for Kamala Harris."
Cheney, who co-chaired the House probe into the Capitol riot attack on Jan. 6, 2021, became a critic of the former president and was removed in her 2022 Republican primary in Wyoming as a result, the Associated Press reported.
Are other Republicans supporting Kamala Harris for president?
Cheney joins a list of other Republicans to support Harris that includes Jimmy McCain, a son of former Arizona senator and 2008 Republican presidential nominee John McCain, who told the AP that he has registered as a Democrat and will vote for Harris.
Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger, also a former Jan. 6 committee member with Cheney, and former Rep. Denver Riggleman are also supporting Harris. And over 200 alumni of the Bush administration and former Republican presidential campaigns of John McCain and Sen. Mitt Romney also announced their endorsement of Harris.
Meanwhile, former Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard voiced her support for Trump and endorsed him for president on Aug. 26. According to the AP, Gabbard represented Hawaii in the U.S. House for four terms as a Democrat and sought the political party's presidential nomination in 2020.
In 2022, Gabbard left the Democratic party and has campaigned for several high-profile Republican candidates nationwide. The Trump campaign recently told the AP that Gabbard was added to the Trump-Vance transition team.
