A rally is planned at Austin City Hall this evening as local activists gather to protest the resignation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions and his departure's effect on the Russia investigation led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. It's one of several rallies planed all across the U.S.
The rally in Austin is being organized by local March for Truth activists, Austin Council Member Jimmy Flannigan, Travis County Democrats and the Nobody Is Above the Law Network.
The rally is set for 5 p.m. Organizers say the rally is being held to demand accountability.
Sessions submitted a letter of resignation but in it made it clear that he was doing so at the request of President Trump. The president and Sessions have had a shaky relationship after Sessions removed himself from the Russia investigation.
Matthew Whitaker has been named Acting Attorney General until a replacement is named. Whitaker has commented in the past that the Meuller probe should be shut down.
