A man is dead following a shooting involving a Caldwell County Deputy.

The sight of shattered windows at a Lockhart home has neighbors shaken up.

"That's scary. That is scary to know that somebody is out there doing that," said neighbor Karen Martinez.

Caldwell County Deputies say the broken glass is the result of a possible burglary called in early Friday morning that deputies and police responded to.

According to a press release, a deputy was flagged down by the person who made the emergency call. He said he located the suspect. The deputy reported that the suspect was armed with a shovel.

Shots were fired by law enforcement. The suspect died on the scene.

Karen Martinez's daughter heard the gunfire.

"She didn't know where it was coming from. She got up, she looked around, didn't see anything. She went back to bed," said Martinez.

Martinez passed off any noises she heard as the sound of storms moving through.

"I didn't know anything had happened until a friend of mine texted me and asked is everything okay," said Martinez. "it's scary knowing that happened just a few houses down."

The Texas Rangers are leading this investigation. The suspect has not been identified.
