Major drug bust in Bastrop County leads to 23 million dollars worth of meth. The Cedar Park Police Department was one of the 14 agencies that worked together on the Bastrop County narcotics operation.
Lt. Chanse Thomas of the Cedar Creek Police Department said it was without question the biggest drug bust he's seen in his career. “The biggest amount of meth I have ever seen at one place in at one time for sure. Significant amounts of not only crystal methamphetamine but also liquid methamphetamine,” he said. On the streets it would be worth about $23-million.
Cedar Park Police worked along with the DEA in Austin and a number of other agencies Lt. Thomas said it was a collaboration not just with local and state officials, but federal as well. “In this case we had huge help from the Austin Fire Department Special Operations. The Austin Police Department, their clandestine lab came out and helped. It was all of these agencies coming together to help us safely do this thing. That's one of the coolest things, it's law enforcement and first responders working together for the greater good,” he said.
A search warrant was executed at the rural home on Jenkins Road in Cedar Creek. Along with the 638-pounds of methamphetamine, Lt. Thomas said they also found three pistols, $25,861 cash, and a stolen vehicle.
The operation led to the arrest of two men, 29-year-old Guillermo Juarez-Perez and 27-year-old Alejandro Meza Palacios. They were both booked into the Bastrop County Jail on charges of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance. “You never know what kind of an effect it's going to be but you absolutely know without question that getting that amount of drugs off the street is going to save countless lives in more ways than one,” Lt. Thomas said.
