Man dies after being hit by MetroRail train
AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - A man has died after he was hit by a MetroRail train in Central Austin.
Austin police received a call at around 11:45 p.m. on March 15 about a person who was hit by a train.
The incident happened near the intersection of East 51st Street and Airport Boulevard.
Emergency crews pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Investigators say the man had been walking on the train tracks before being struck by the train.
Austin Police Department Sgt. Eric Wilson says that there is no other information about why the person had been walking on the tracks. He says the train just didn't have enough time to stop.
No one riding on the train was hurt and all passengers were safely evacuated.
The identity of the person has not been released at this time.
