AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - A 60-year-old male has died following a fire in North Austin on Saturday that was caused by a strike of lightning. He was transported to a local hospital by first responders with the Ausitn-Travis County Emergency Medical Services, where he later died from his injuries.
According to the Austin Fire Department, first responders were dispatched to the Cricket Hollow apartment complex in the 11400 block of North Interstate Highway 35 around 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 6. The fire is believed to have been started due to a lightning strike, according to AFD.
The cause of death has yet to be determined by the medical examiner but it was not lightning, according to Captain Andy Reardon with the Austin Fire Department.
The victim's identity has not been released at this time.
