An investigation is underway after a man was found dead in South Austin Monday afternoon.

Homicide detectives spent the day collecting evidence at Post South Lamar apartments just south of Lamar Square Drive after reports of gunshots.

People who live near the apartments said they heard the gunfire around 1:30 p.m.

When officers arrived on scene, they found one man in his 20s with obvious trauma to his body.
Police would not clarify if his injuries were from gunfire, but Austin/Travis County EMS said the man had been shot.

“Life-saving measures were administered, but, unfortunately, those measures were unsuccessful and the male was pronounced deceased on scene,” said Austin Police Officer Destiny Winston.

For several hours’ dozens of officers lined the side of the apartment building searching for clues and speaking with witnesses.

Police said they have to wait for a medical examiner to confirm the cause of death before classifying the investigation, but homicide detectives were visible on scene.

Officers do not have a suspect at this time.

“We haven't made any arrests at this point, so we are looking for anyone who might have any involvement of this incident,” Winston said.

Police are asking anyone who saw something or heard something suspicious to report that information to them. To donate to Christian M Meroney's GoFundMe, click here.
