Man found guilty of shooting, killing teen in 2018, sentenced to 43 years

A man has been found guilty in the shooting and killing of a teen over a firework dispute. In the early morning hours of July 4, 2018, Jason Roche says he shot 19-year-old Devonte Ortiz, but Roche claims that it was in self-defense. 

However, court documents show that Roche was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Ortiz. His trial started March 10 at the Travis County Justice Complex.

According to Nancy Williams with the DA's Office, Roche was found guilty of murder  Friday, March 13. FOX 7 Austin's Kacey Bowen was in court following the trial where she learned that Roche was sentenced to 43 years in prison.
