Man who was killed in shootout at Dallas federal courthouse attended Leander HS

LEANDER, Texas - The active shooter who was killed outside a Dallas federal building graduated from Vandegrift High School in 2015, according to Leander ISD.

Records indicate 22-year-old Brian Issack Clyde enrolled at VHS in March 2012. As a member of the JROTC program, he also attended Leander High School for coursework and activities.

According to authorities, a masked gunman, later identified as Brian Issack Clyde, opened fire Monday on a federal courthouse in downtown Dallas before being fatally shot in an exchange of gunfire with federal officers. He was pronounced dead at a hospital following the shooting outside the Earle Cabell Federal Building. Police also closed off several blocks around the federal building while they examined Clyde's vehicle for explosives.

According to the FBI, Clyde was an Army veteran who was carrying more than five 30-round magazines and a high-powered rifle. Clyde was discharged from the Army in 2017. However, authorities could not confirm what type of discharge Clyde received.

US Attorney Erin Cox says one person was injured while trying to take cover.

The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
