A Travis County jury sentenced a man to 40 years in prison for the murder of a 22-year-old woman.

A Travis County jury sentenced a man to 40 years in prison for the murder of a 22-year-old woman.

According to the Travis County District Attorney's Office, 23-year-old Manolo Gonzalez was convicted for the murder of 22-year-old Elizabeth Lopez.

Manolo Gonzalez, 21, was arrested for murder following a deadly road rage incident in South Austin.

Man arrested for murder of 22-year-old woman in South Austin road rage incident

Austin police said on Jan. 23, Manolo Gonzalez was found by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force in Kyle, and was later booked into the Travis County Jail. He was arrested for first-degree murder.

Background

Police said the incident happened on Jan. 6, 2023, shortly after 8:30 p.m. Officers were called to E Stassney Lane between South Congress and I-35.

22-year-old Elizabeth Lopez was fatally shot in the head while driving on East Stassney Lane. Police believe the shooter’s motive was road rage. 

Gonzalez admitted to police the victim, 22-year-old Elizabeth Lopez, was a stranger to him, and this was a case of road rage.
