Moody Center opens its doors

Austin's newest spot for concerts, sports, and more is now officially open. FOX 7 Austin's Tierra Neubaum gets a look around at the facility from President of CAA Icon, Dan Vaillant.

The doors are finally opening to Austin's new, world-class arena Moody Center. The state-of-the-art venue will host top concert tours, sporting events, and will be the home for the University of Texas Longhorns men's and women's basketball teams.

The arena is located at 2001 Robert Dedman Drive. The 530,000 square-foot building cost an estimated $338 million to build and has more than 15,000 seats.

Moody Center replaces the 45-year-old Frank Erwin Center. It's named in honor of the $130 million gift from the Moody Foundation which is the largest gift the foundation has ever given to an organization and one of the largest gifts given to the University of Texas.

University of Texas talks about Moody Center

The doors are finally open to the state-of-the-art Moody Center and it's going to be a great venue for UT students. There'll be big names coming to perform and it'll be home to the Longhorns men's and women's basketball teams. FOX 7 Austin's Tierra Neubaum gets details.

John Mayer will help open the arena with the first concert at the venue. Mayer has shows April 20 and 21. Bon Jovi will perform on April 23 and then Justin Bieber on April 27. Other artists scheduled to perform include Machine Gun Kelly, Shawn Mendes, The Killers, and Daddy Yankee. You can see the full schedule here.

The venue's official grand opening will be April 29-30 and will feature George Strait whoi will be joined by Willie Nelson & Family and Randy Rogers Band for the "Strait from Moody Center" Grand Opening Celebration.
