Most Austin restaurants, shops, and grocery stores will be closed on Christmas Day

People often get lost in the hustle and bustle of the holidays, which means last-minute shoppers and people desperately seeking to find places that are still open.

The restaurants, shops, and grocery stores that are open on Christmas Day are not always easy to find.

"We're doing last-minute shopping for my siblings," said Lyla Gessner. "We've been to a lot of stores, and everything's picked over and sold out."

Most shoppers who browsed through Downtown Austin on Christmas Eve were from out of town and were there to visit family.

"We come from Houston," said Ravi Ganesan. "Yeah, so we want to spend one day here. Looks like most of the south is closed today."

Some people were from Houston, while others came from Toronto.

"I'm with my parents," said Maria Ferreira. "We did some shopping, but we are exploring Austin. We're actually traveling, so we don't live here."

The open spots were few and far between.

"It was kind of hard to find places, but there were some stores that we found in 2nd Street that were open," said Ferreira.

Starbucks, CVS, and Walgreens are among the places that will greet customers on Christmas Day. However, if you are really in a pinch, your best luck for groceries will be at gas stations or local convenience stores.

"I think I did all my shopping, at least my bank account says so, but I'm just going to go home and chill out with my kids," said Carla Moore.

On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, classic breakfast places are open, including IHop, Waffle House, and Denny's.

A few festive food options open in Austin include La Piscina, Laurel Restaurant, The Peacock Mediterranean Grill, Lin Asian Bar + Dim Sum Restaurant, CaCarpenter'sall, and CJoe's Restaurant.

All liquor stores in Texas are closed on Christmas Day.
