No vacancy at Atlantic City casino that offered free rooms during Hurricane Florence
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (WTXF) - An Atlantic City, New Jersey casino that had offered free rooms to those fleeing the path of Hurricane Florence has no more rooms available.
The Ocean Resort Casino announced on Twitter that they were at capacity Thursday morning, and rooms were booked up through Saturday, September 15.
The resort added that they would be able to offer rooms for Sunday, September 16 through Thursday, September 20.
Earlier this week, the casino’s owner Bruce Deifik, told the Associated Press he would let anyone fleeing the storm stay at his Ocean Resort Casino for free until the storm has passed.
Those looking to get a room were required to provide identification proving they lived in an area endangered by the storm.
Deifik is defining that area liberally, saying all reasonable requests for shelter will be accepted as long as rooms remained. Rooms can be booked by calling 1-866-50-OCEAN.
The casino hotel has 1,399 rooms, and reopened in June after being shuttered since 2014.
The Carolinas are bracing for Hurricane Florence, which was threatening a corridor of more than 10 million people on Wednesday.
Georgia, Virginia and North and South Carolina have declared states of emergency.
