Parents angry about "slap boxing" game going on at school

The AISD Police are investigating an incident at Bedicheck Middle School. In a letter sent to parents on Wednesday, the school's principal referred to an incident that happened in the boy's bathroom. It's called "slap-boxing." The "game" involves using open hands instead of closed fists.

The incident was recorded and the video has surfaced on Instagram. The parents of one of the sixth graders in the video reached out to FOX 7. They say their son was bullied into participating during lunch time.

He described what happened, telling FOX 7, "a group of kids came up to me and asked me did I want to fight with them. I said no because I didn't want to get in trouble. Later they asked me again and they started making fun of me that I didn't answer so I finally agreed to it." He says when it was over he called his mother Christina.

She says she went to the school and one of the administrators called her son a "punk."

Christina and her husband Chris found the video on Instagram. Chris went to the school on Tuesday. "When I go in the next day to talk to the principal and the assistant principal he told me, he deemed it, he viewed the video as horseplay, that a video like that was horseplay and that irritated me."

Christina adds, "I don't think they handled it well at all. I think this is one they tried to sweep under the rug and get it out of the way.

They say they reached out to FOX 7 because they wanted parents at the school to be aware of what's happening there. And they say the school is only taking the incident seriously now, because the media is involved. "To be honest," Chris says, "they messed with the wrong dad. The wrong dad and the wrong mom."

In Wednesday's letter, the principal only refers to Monday's incident. Chris and Christina say there is another, and that it was also posted to Instagram. The couple says they are frustrated that the school isn't telling the whole story.

"This has been going on for more than once incident, 6 weeks back that it's been going on," Chris says.

Their son is no longer in school at Bedicheck, because he is afraid he will be bullied again, "I don't like getting beat up," he says.

Chris and Christina are looking to enroll him in another school in the coming days. They say that although AISD Police are investigating the incident, they have not been contacted.

FOX 7 reached out to AISD Police, but they did not return our request for a comment.
