How is PEC prepared for winter weather?
What they're saying:
PEC says they're prepared for another round of cold weather.
"We are set and ready to go with crews fully staffed both in the office and out in the field and additional crews on standby ready to respond," Kendra Acosta with PEC said.
PEC says they have 340 lineworkers, 24 contract construction crews, and 35 vegetation crews available plus additional agents ready to answer phones. They say they continually use advanced imaging to determine where to tackle vegetation.

It's been almost a year since Winter Storm Uri wreaked havoc on Texas
The 246 deaths spanned 77 counties and included victims ranging from less than 1 year old to 102 years old, according to the report.
Many Texans recall outages in 2021 and 2023. Because of that, in 2024, crews inspected thousands of poles and equipment.
The PEC control center watches conditions closely.
"We invest heavily in storm hardening, and we drill often and regularly to stay prepared for events like this," Acosta said.
Local perspective:
Some Oak Hill residents shared their thoughts about the upcoming weather.
"My daughter would be very excited if it snowed just a little bit, but moving from St. Louis two years ago, this is pretty mild weather for us," Ruth Terry Vilches said.
"We have a 4x4 vehicle if we need to go out and get something," Vilches added. "I'm not particularly worried because we have good transportation and lots of neighbors that will help."
How to stay prepared for winter weather
Why you should care:
With cold weather, it could bring higher bills.
"You want to be mindful of your energy use during these cold days to avoid any surprise bills," Acosta said.
They recommend setting your thermostat between 68 and 70 degrees. Plus, keep cold air from getting in by weather stripping.
Try not to raise your thermostat more than 2 degrees at a time, because more than that can use a lot of energy.

Cold weather tips and supplies
Most people are not ready to handle extreme temperatures and their aftermath. However, knowing how to respond in situations like pipes bursting or power outages will save you and your wallet.
Also, people should have an emergency kit. The kit should have food, water, blankets, batteries, and chargers.
"PEC is going to prepare and do everything possible to make our system as resilient and as strong as possible. When Mother Nature wreaks havoc, it's important also to have a plan in case of extended outages," Acosta said.
If your power does go out, text "outage" to 25022. Make sure your contact information is updated with the utility.
