Pflugerville Police release results of holiday season traffic enforcement initiative

Pflugerville Police have released the results of the holiday season's Strategic Training Encouraging Partnership (STEP) traffic enforcement initiative. STEP is part of the Texas Department of Transportation and uses funds for proactive traffic enforcement.

In the past December, the Pflugerville Police department increased traffic enforcement to encourage safe driving during the holidays. Pflugerville Police made 862 traffic stops, 25 of which were made through funding from the STEP grant.

The stops resulted in citations for seatbelt, speed, traffic control, and hazardous moving violations. "Each one of these traffic stops represents an opportunity for education and one less potential traffic accident or fatality." Pflugerville Police wrote.

The STEP initiative grants funds throughout the year. Pflugerville Police received $12,000 from the STEP grant last year, and that money is now being invested into education and enforcement.

The next STEP enforcement initiative is scheduled to take place over Spring Break.
