Water parks begin to open across Texas
As more businesses begin to open across Texas, water parks can open their doors.
PFLUGERVILLE, Texas - After months of staying at home during the coronavirus pandemic, Texas is reopening its water parks at 25-percent capacity. Families were able to register and pay online for a day pass at Typhoon Texas in Pflugerville Friday.
“It’s an exciting time for families in Pflugerville and the surrounding area to come out and enjoy the fresh, clean, outdoor experience,” said Ty Weitzel, General Manager of Typhoon Texas. “We’ve increased social distancing measures from our tables to the markers on the ground. We’ve also increased sanitation stations throughout the facility to make you as a customer and us as a staff to all feel safe.”
Employees who are not able to keep a six-foot distance from guests are wearing a mask as a part of the state’s guidelines. According to the Centers of Disease Control, “there is no evidence that covid-19 can be spread to humans through the use of recreational waters,” but its recommended facilities operate to inactivate the virus in the water. Weitzel said the pools have a filtration system the park checks once an hour. Signs are also hung throughout the park reminding people to have good clean fun.
“In Typhoon, Texas we are in unprecedented times,” said Weitzel. “We want to make the park accessible to families and we understand that each family has a decision to make with coming out to a waterpark.”
The measures in place give parents peace of mind. Charity Urban’s family has season passes and she said Friday’s crowd was the smallest she’s ever seen.

“ It’s nice to get out of the house and be able to go do stuff,” said Urban. “We felt safe; we don’t feel like there was an issue everyone was spacing out.”
Her 10-year old daughter April was just happy to get out of the house. “I love the pool and everything and it’s just exciting to go to a waterpark,“ April said.
