"Plan While You Can" TxDOT urging Texans to drive sober for Super Bowl
AUSTIN, Texas - The Texas Department of Transportation is urging Texans to plan ahead for driving during the Super Bowl.
TxDOT says to "Plan While You Can" for a sober ride before and after enjoying any Super Bowl party or other activities that include drinking alcohol.
"Super Bowl weekend is an especially dangerous time for drunk driving crashes,” said TxDOT Executive Director James Bass.
TxDOT recommends designating a sober driver, contacting a cab, ride-share service, using mass transit, or staying the night.
Driving while intoxicated can be costly. Drivers can face up to $17,000 in fines and fees, jail time and can even lose their driver's license.
Getting behind the wheel while intoxicated can also carry heavier consequences. According to TxDOT, during last year's Super Bowl weekend, over 310 DUI-related crashes in Texas that left 11 people dead and 27 injured.
"With so many choices available, there is absolutely no excuse to drink and drive. If you plan to drink alcohol, plan ahead for a sober ride. It’s a game plan that could save a life.” said Bass.
