The team was returning to Charlotte after playing a preseason game in New England Thursday night. The Panthers lost 17-3.
The plane incident happened at 2:35 a.m, forcing passengers to get off the plane and be taken to the terminal. No injuries were reported, and the plane was later towed.

It’s unclear if the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby, which dumped several inches of rain and caused some power outages earlier in the day, were to blame.

Delta said "the right main gear of Delta 8860 exited the taxiway at Charlotte Douglas International Airport following a normal arrival."

Panthers coaches and players are off Friday and scheduled to start practice again Saturday.
