TAYLOR, Texas - The Taylor Police Department is warning residents to be wary of phone scams after a resident received a telephone call from a suspect claiming to be a police officer.
According to police, a Williamson County resident received a telephone call from a suspect claiming to be an officer with the Taylor Police Department on Thursday, January 23. The suspect told the resident that there was suspicious activity involving the resident's social security number and that an investigation into money laundering had been initiated.

The suspect then stated the resident needed to withdraw cash and meet them with the money, their bank card, and their driver's license at a location in Austin.
The resident called the Taylor Police Department and confirmed that this call was a scam.
The Taylor Police Department is reminding the public that the police will never call anyone and demand money as a result of an investigation.
Anyone solicited into suspicious activity should do what this resident did, and call the Taylor Police Department to report it immediately.
