Protesters around Georgetown Square joined by county, city leaders

GEORGETOWN, Texas - A message heard across the county is now echoing across Georgetown.

“This is really telling of the climate and future that is going to happen in Georgetown,” said one of the people who showed up to a protest at the Georgetown square.

A crowd of people gathered next to the county courthouse Wednesday afternoon. The turnout took those who showed up by surprise. “Yes this right here is beautiful, I’m so proud,” said another person.

Marches around the square happened throughout the afternoon, all from people wanting their message to be heard. Those around to hear it included many city and county leaders ranging from the mayor of Georgetown to the Williamson County sheriff.

Many hope these leaders will hear their messages. “I think this is the loudest message, they are going to receive if they don’t hear it, the next message is going to be a lot more provocative, that’s what we are trying to prevent,” said another person who attended.

Those marching spoke on why it’s important to spread these messages in a city like Georgetown. “In Williamson County, this is the county seat and it should start here,” said one person.

“We don’t want the same thing in Minneapolis to happen here so let’s start now when it hasn’t happened yet what are we going to do wait for the death and go oh we should put in reforms now we should talk to the people now,” said another.

The heat did little to hamper the marching in Georgetown. For the most part, a lot of dialogue happened between people, government leaders, and law enforcement in an effort to come together. After the marching was over many helped to clean up the area.
