Reported incident in South Austin not a package explosion, police say
AUSTIN, Texas - Authorities responded to an incident at a Goodwill in South Austin Tuesday night that injured one person.
Officials responded to the store located in the 9800 block of Brodie Lane. Authorities originally said it was a reported package explosion, however, police later confirmed there was no package explosion. Austin police said an employee at the store picked up some type of military device. When the employee handled it, it initiated and injured the employee.
Officials said this incident was not related to the recent series of explosions.
The employee was transported to St. David's in South Austin. A spokesperson for St. David’s South Austin Medical Center said the patient was treated and released.
Goodwill said earlier they were closing all their stores out an abundance of caution.
