San Marcos Police Officer Kenneth Copeland’s end of watch was December 4th, 2017, a tragic day that those who knew, loved and worked alongside Copeland will never forget.

A group of officers were serving a warrant at a home when a man answered the door with a gun and shot and killed Copeland. The 19-year veteran's death was the first line of duty death in the department's history.

“His family is still healing; the community is still healing,” said Interim Police Chief Bob Klett. “He was a father and a husband who worked tirelessly here and in other businesses. He also served in the Coast Guard to take care of his family, to take care of his community and to take care of his nation that is just the kind of person he was.”
